Magic Moments: Rawda Theam

“Despite her challenges, I never see Rawda without a smile on her face.”

– Ameil, Rawda’s nominator

Being a single parent isn’t easy. And being a single parent while juggling daily dialysis sessions and working overnights to make ends meet? That’s an extra level of hard. This is the day-to-day reality for our sixth Magic Moments recipient, Rawda Theam, who would do anything for her daughters, 14-year-old Alith and 8-year-old Alek.

A home full of love

Between keeping up with her girls, managing her health following a renal failure diagnosis, and working hard to provide for her family, Rawda has a lot on her plate — but you wouldn’t know it from talking to her. In her nomination, Rawda’s friend Ameil (who is herself a former Magic Moments recipient!) couldn’t say enough about her friend’s resilience and positive attitude. Despite Rawda’s daily dialysis treatments and frequent visits to the doctor, Ameil said she would never have known what Rawda was going through if she hadn’t seen medical supplies at Rawda’s house. Instead, Rawda’s life revolves around her girls.

Rawda, Alith, and Alek are a tight-knit crew. They love spending time together, watching movies, shopping, or doing puzzles whenever they can. There’s a lot of laughter in their house, and nominator Ameil says the family made her feel welcomed into their home when she and Rawda became friends after a parents’ event at the girls’ school. The family doesn’t have a lot, but they’re more than willing to share. Ameil believes Rawda’s big heart, resilience in the face of medical troubles, and joyful disposition are deserving of some extra magic this holiday season, and UBT’s Magic Moments team was happy to oblige.

Extra cheer for the holidays

The Magic Moments crew worked with our partners to ensure Rawda and the girls felt the love this holiday season. New furniture ensured their welcoming home will be comfier than ever, and new clothes and winter wear will keep them stylish and warm during the colder months. Rawda’s car will be outfitted with a new set of tires to make the nighttime drive to work safer. The family got a bundle of passes and memberships to activities and experiences that will afford them extra quality time together, in addition to lots of art supplies and puzzles for more family fun.

We hope Rawda, Alith, and Alek have an extra special holiday together this year, and we’re especially wishing for good health in the new year for this hardworking mama. Happy holidays from UBT!
