“Jordann has never asked for anything more than well wishes. This year, the family truly deserves a Christmas miracle. Even just to remind them that there is light at the end of every tunnel.”
— Hailey Oaks, family friend
Jordann Lamborn is a single mom of three girls: Taushanea, who’s 13; Alashauni, who’s 7; and 5-year-old Jahzara. She has always tried to give them everything they need to succeed in life — it’s what any good mom does. Life hasn’t always been easy, but it’s their life, and they love each other. It’s amazing to Jordann how quickly life can change. In what seemed like an instant, she went from being the parent of healthy kiddos to the scared mom of a child with a tumor.
In October, she took Taushanea to the doctor for really bad headaches — most likely, the doctor thought, from a sinus infection. But the headaches kept getting worse, and a CT scan after a frightening visit to the ER revealed a mother’s worst nightmare: Taushanea had a brain tumor. She was admitted to Children’s Hospital in Omaha at once and underwent a nearly day-long surgery soon after. She’s home now, attending school when she’s able. Jordann is by her side as much as she can be, while trying to give Alashauni and Jahzara what they need, too. Jordann’s friend Hailey Oaks, along with the girls’ aunt and grandma, nominated the family for a Magic Moment because they felt they needed some joy and normalcy this season. UBT couldn’t agree more.
Navigating with strength and grace
From the time they started their journey into this unfamiliar world of treatments and medical appointments, Jordann and her girls have faced the future with a powerful bond and positive outlook. There’s just a lot of unknowns for the family as they navigate the situation with strength and grace, but they can do it as long as they’re together and they have their awesome family and friends for support (like the ones who nominated them). They don’t ask for a lot, because they know there are a lot of other deserving people out there.
Life is for living
The family enjoys taking part in activities that they can do together, like going to the zoo or the Lincoln Children's Museum, hanging out at the movies, going bowling, or getting manicures. They like just being together, really — time is precious, and life is for living.
UBT arranged to show Jordann and her family some holiday love with the help of our amazing partners. Memberships, gift cards, and passes to all of their favorite togetherness activities (plus lots of crafting and sports games) provide opportunities for many family outings in the year ahead. Much-needed car maintenance, tires, and gas cards guarantee reliable transportation to Taushanea’s appointments. And hand-picked gifts for each family member ensure they know how special they are.
We’re wishing Jordann and her girls the season’s very best, and for improved health — hang in there, Taushanea! Happy holidays, Jordann and family!
