Susa’s Sweets: Our first pop-up shop satisfied Lincoln’s sugar cravings

The first pop-up shop business owner to take up residency in Union Bank Place resulted in a smashing success. Bia Espinoza, owner of Susa’s Sweet & Balloons, brought her sweet disposition and even sweeter treats to the space inside our newest location in downtown Lincoln for more than four months at the end of 2023.

Bia originally hails from Guerrero, Mexico, and creates stylish dessert creations to preserve her Hispanic traditions. Originally concocting her elaborate desserts just for fun, she began to receive more and more requests. “My customers really liked what I was doing, and that pushed me to start my own business,” Bia explained of the advent of Susa’s Sweets. “What moves me is to be able to serve my community while doing what I love to do most.”

Susa’s is named after Bia’s late mother, who insisted that her kids’ birthdays were celebrated with plenty of homemade sweets no matter how difficult their financial situation was at the time. “She used to say that we always must celebrate your birthday because we don’t have the next one promised,” Bia said, explaining that she’s proud that the business she named after her mom helps other people celebrate their special occasions.

Bia’s personal favorite from her own product lineup is Gelatina Artesanal — artistic gelatin creations that often include flowers, fruits, and nuts and come in a variety of sizes and flavor options.

Specializing in desserts and balloon arrangements to fit any occasion or theme, Bia’s customers rave about her attention to detail and the delicious confections she designs. In addition to cakes — speaking of which, check out pics of some of the cream cheese and berry jam cakes on her Facebook and Instagram pages — Bia also creates showstopping custom gelatin pops, flan, buñuelos, candied apples, dipped pretzels, handmade flowers, and layered gelatin pieces that can only be described as tasty works of art.

La primera propietaria de una tienda pop-up en instalarse en Union Bank Place ha sido todo un éxito. Bia Espinoza, propietaria de Susa's Sweet & Balloons, trajo su dulce disposición y sus aún más dulces delicias al espacio dentro de nuestra nueva ubicación en el centro de Lincoln durante más de cuatro meses a finales de 2023.

Bia es originaria de Guerrero, México, y crea elegantes postres para preservar sus tradiciones hispanas. Al principio preparaba sus elaborados postres sólo por diversión, pero empezó a recibir más peticiones. "A mis clientes les gustaba mucho lo que hacía, y eso me empujó a montar mi propio negocio", explica Bia sobre la creación de Susa's Sweets. "Lo que me mueve es poder servir a mi comunidad mientras hago lo que más me gusta".

Susa's debe su nombre a la difunta madre de Bia, que insistía en que los cumpleaños de sus hijos se celebraran con abundantes dulces caseros por muy difícil que fuera su situación económica en ese momento.
