Beyond volleyball and basketball: UBT’s Sports Complex builds community
“When you build a facility like this, you think about building a community and bringing families together.”
Ray Grace, UBT
If you were to walk into the Union Bank & Trust Sports Complex located just south of Elkhorn, Nebraska, you might be taken in by the expansiveness of the 134,000-square-foot facility. The volleyball courts, basketball courts, training facility, state-of-the-art HD digital Scorevision scoreboards, full concession service, sports lounge, and a pretty awesome seating lounge for much-needed R&R are very nice; one might even call them impressive. But impressive wasn’t really the objective here, and this new addition to the region’s landscape means so much to so many.
To the young athletes and their parents who were driving 30 minutes or more each way for practices and games, the sports complex represents a beautiful and accessible space for the kids to play and practice, a place to interact with their friends and coaches and to excel at what they love. To the coaches and athletic directors, a local sports complex means a place for their team members to grow and improve through the hard work they put in every day. And to Union Bank, the structure is a means to build community and bring area youth and their families together in a just-for-them space.
Taking care of our MVPs
UBT’s Omaha team got wind of plans to build an area sports complex, saw the amazing opportunity to invest in tomorrow’s athletes and leaders, and helped provide financing for the new structure to come to fruition. The complex’s location brings in teams from around the region and is easily accessible to the Omaha area and neighboring communities, which was a must. These champions in the making deserve a place to call home that brings out their A game.
“We are very blessed to have the relationship we have with UBT so that we can continue to provide as many opportunities as we can for the kids in our program.” — Mitch, Basketball Director
