Margaret came to the U.S. from Nigeria and is a UNL student and UBT customer. One day in December 2021, a young girl came into the UBT branch inside the UNL student union, asking for Margaret. We didn’t have a Margaret that worked here, so we asked her if she meant Miranda, to which she replied, no, Margaret. We asked her for her last name, which we immediately recognized. We called her mom, Margaret, to let her know that her daughter was at UBT. She knew immediately what it was about, thanked us for calling her, and asked us to let her daughter know to go home.
Margaret came in the next day to explain what was going on. It turns out that UBT is part of the family’s safety plan!
Margaret came in the next day to explain what was going on. It turns out that UBT is part of the family’s safety plan! Margaret had explained to her daughter that if she ever missed the school bus home, she could take the StarTran bus route to the Nebraska Union, come to our branch, and let someone know to call her mom, as we all know Margaret here. She trusts us so much that her daughter could use this as a safe space in case she got lost. Our team at this branch was very moved by this, and we look forward to seeing Margaret and her daughter whenever they need us!
